Some websites are conveniences. Others are civic infrastructure. mapostcommission.gov, the home of the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission, is firmly the second kind. Created as part of the state’s landmark 2020 police reform law, the Commission exists to improve policing and enhance public confidence in law enforcement. Its website is where that mission meets the public: citizens use it to look up an officer’s certification status, browse disciplinary records, follow Commission decisions, and file complaints. When a site carries that kind of responsibility, it has to work every day, for everyone.
We designed and built the Commission’s standalone website to give POST a digital home of its own, one their team could update quickly and citizens could navigate easily. But the part of the story we don’t tell often enough is what happens after launch. A site like this is never “done.”
That’s why the heart of our work with POST is ongoing support. We’re the Commission’s technical partner day to day: fielding support requests, hunting down and fixing bugs before they get between a citizen and an answer, and keeping the platform hardened and patched. A government accountability site is exactly the kind of target that can’t afford to be soft on security. We also help maintain what matters most, the officer databases themselves, supporting the updates that keep certification statuses and disciplinary records current, accurate, and dependable.
None of this is glamorous, and that’s the point. Public trust is built on a thousand quiet things going right: the search that returns the correct record, the database that reflects last week’s decisions, the page that loads when a resident or a reporter needs it at 11 p.m. Launch day gets the applause, but reliable support is what keeps an accountability mission credible year after year.
